The Figtree system will integrate easily into your organisation's IT strategy, and can be fully supported by Figtree if desired. You don't need to introduce yet another proprietary software package that has the potential for causing future in-house support and compatibility problems.
Software Industry StandardsFigtree's distributed computing architecture allows for a wide range of possible system configurations. These include: - Two-Tier Mode (where the user application runs on the PC client workstation and the database runs on a Server).
- Three-Tier Thin Client Mode (where the user application runs on an Application Server).
- As an Application Service Provider (ASP), Figtree can deploy fully hosted systems utilising leading Internet based technology.
For small systems, the Client and Server can in fact be the same PC. The user interface is standard Microsoft Windows (Win 98, Win NT, Win 2000 or XP). It is closely integrated with other Windows applications and services, including the Microsoft Office suite, and the full range of Microsoft Exchange services. The system is fully Internet compliant.
>> The Client software consists of a software engine written in Progress and a repository that defines the variable components of the system - screen forms, business rules, database connections and so on. The software is developed to provide maximum flexibility in the way it interacts with the hardware and network.
>> The system will work with native Progress and Oracle database systems. It is thus fully scalable from laptop PC to mainframe. - Single user, standalone PC
- Small network with non-dedicated database server
- LAN and WAN with dedicated database server
- 3-tier systems using NT Terminal Server 2000 or Citrix Server as application servers
It is closely integrated with other Windows applications and services, including the Microsoft Office suite, and the full range of Microsoft Exchange services. A Web browser (IE 5 compatible) interface is also available, allowing Figtree applications to be deployed across the Internet as described below:
Web Interface functionalityIn addition to client/server configuration, Figtree provides web interface functionality. Built on Java Servlet Technology (J2EE), FigWeb will run on any operating system capable of running a Java Servlet container eg. Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and several flavours of Unix and Linux. Apache Tomcat and Caucho Resin are examples of Servlet containers. Figtree Web technology can run solely under a Servlet container or integrate with popular webservers such as Apache, Sun ONE and Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
Two additional components are added to Figtree systems setup. 1. Message server. 2. Business logic layer.
>> Figtree has defined several hundred request functions for XML transactions. The Figtree Web front end accepts the input to produce XML requests; passes to message server; the Figtree business logic layer listener picks up the request, connects to the database, performs the function and returns the response XML to the message server; with the web front picking up the response to present it in an intuitive web browser interface via html forms. |
