What is FigApp?FigApp is a portal that interfaces with the Figtree back-office functionality. This allows for the business-to-business interconnectivity of the Figtree system with different applications, such as the Figtree Web interface (FigWeb) or a client's business application. This generic facility enables Figtree business rules and functionality to be reflected in user interfaces such as Web forms, accessed via the Intranet or the Internet. To make all this happen, FigApp utilises a messaging broker (e.g. SonicMQ or Web Sphere MQ series) that allows applications to send XML[1] request functions to FigApp which subsequently sends an appropriate XML response. This is achieved thanks to FigApp's XML framework specification, which outlines FigApp's own standards on XML request/response routines, ideal for data exchange in electronic commerce. (FigWeb) or a client's business application. What does FigApp offer?
- Faster deployment of new applications.
- Increased access to data.
- Better security measures.
- Easier integration with data exchanges.
- More reliable applications.
- Better ability to expand applications to increased workloads and new system requirements.
- Simplified workflow integration with legacy systems.
- Easier-to-manage applications.
- Reduced administrative overheads.
- Capability to adopt emerging technologies, such as Web services, with ease.
How does FigApp work?FigApp is part of a two or three-component model: a business server, the FigApp application server, and optionally, a web server.
- A two-component model. An external business application sends a request to the middle-tier-based application server, FigApp, might then reference one or more back-office databases before sending the request results back to the external business system.
- A three-component model. There is the front-end Web server (e.g. FigtreeWeb) that receives requests from users. The request is then handed off to the middle-tier application server (FigApp), where it is acted upon by programs on the application server. The middle tier-based application server, FigApp, might then reference one or more back-office databases before sending the request results back to the presentation layer, such as a Web browser, through FigWeb or other Web systems.
