Accessibility for all is a noble cause.
The importance of the requirements of Section 508 (US Federal Government) and also the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (industry standards) regarding accessible technology products to all end users, including those with disabilities, is a noble cause indeed. Through Figtree's automation of many repetitive tasks, and customisable interface, job descriptions in both the government and commerce sector can be opened up to those with some forms of disabilities. We'd like to do more.
Complying with Section 508 requirements can be complicated by many factors. As with most sophisticated software, and the necessary hardware, the products of Figtree Systems are impacted by multiple third party technological variables, including hardware design, operating systems, and assistive technologies.
As Section 508, or industry guidelines, do not mandate a common means of assessing compliance with the accessibility standards, we must rely on the feedback of those customers with disabled employees, so that we can continue to develop better accessibility interface design and task automation, and monitor the success of our accessibility efforts. We think this cause is much more than just a US government regulation that must be adhered to, and is something we need your feedback on to help develop. |
